The best chips for dipping can hold up to a bowl of creamy queso as well as they do a container of chunky guacamole. Not all chips have the structural integrity needed for a proper dip spread, and it can be tough to know which ones are worth trying and which will leave you with a dip bowl full of soggy chip shards. To help your future dip parties go off without a hitch, we’ve rounded up sturdy chips that can withstand even the heftiest dips. Let’s get dunkin’!
- Stacy’s Simply Naked Pita Chips
-
Pita chips are among the best chips for dipping, especially if hummus is your dip of choice. In her ranking of the best pita chips, managing editor Gwynedd Stuart discussed the variety present in the average bag of Stacy’s Pita Chips. “Some of the chips are thin and some are thicker and some are more done than others,” she noted. Don’t get us wrong, we love a strong little pita chip, but having both thin and thick pieces to choose from means you really get to curate your dipping and crunching experience. No two bites shall be the same, so says Stacy’s Pita Chips. —Naajia Shukri

- Honey Dijon Kettle Chips
-
If you like a little more zest on your dipping chips, you may want to answer the call of the Kettle Brand chip. Honey Dijon continues to be our favorite flavor of Kettle chips, and some of our favorite potato chips, period. Kettle chips are thick and rigid, which makes them superb for dipping—they’ll hold up to most anything. And the flavor of this chip is bold but not so bold that it won’t meld with something creamy, like an onion dip or ranch dip. “The flavor is almost caramelized,” Sporked contributor Danny Palumbo wrote. “It’s powerfully rich and deliciously savory.” This is one chip you’ll definitely want in your dip draft. —Naajia Shukri

- Baked Ruffles Original
-
People are sleeping on Baked Ruffles, I tell ya. These things are thick, salty as all get out, crispetty-crunchetty, textured, and supposedly slightly healthier for us than normal chips (supposedly). Now whether you buy that last part or not doesn’t really matter, because healthy or not, these things are divine and absolute perfection with an onion dip or a hummus. Some may call these a bit plain, but that’s just what makes them a fantastic vehicle for whatever dip you feel like swiping your chips through. Also, they truly aren’t that plain, they are a solid salty snack that I feel like we all need to revisit. Baked Ruffles are just thicker, frillier Pringles, and there ain’t nothin’ wrong with that. —Jessica Block
- Chicas Lime Tortilla Chips
-
Yes, tortilla chips deserve to be on this list twice. Also, these aren’t just plain salted tortilla chips. No sir. These bad boys are salted and limed for your puckering pleasure. What goes well with a delightfully salty, limey chip? Why everything, of course: salsa roja, salsa verde, guac, sour cream, queso…you name it, this chip plays well with it. And not only are these chips sturdy but they are also the best lime chips we’ve tried here at Sporked. “They’re so salty and so limey that you’d really think they’d just been doused in fresh lime juice,” managing editor Gwynedd Stuart wrote. Trust us, you need these at your next chip and dip-related soiree. —Jessica Block

- Snack Factory Gluten-Free Pretzel Crisps
-
A pretzel may not exactly be a chip, but Snack Factory’s Pretzel Crisps sure do feel like they should be. Pretzels already have an impressive crunch, but the gluten-free version of these guys blows their gluten-ful counterparts out of the water. These crisps made their debut in our best gluten-free crackers ranking, where Danny wrote that “because they’re so sturdy and salty, Snack Factory gluten-free pretzel crisps are ideal for dipping.” We couldn’t have phrased it better, Danny. These gluten free pretzel crisps are for crunch lovers and gluten haters alike when it comes to dipping. —Naajia Shukri
