Tillamook ice cream is unbelievably good. That’s an opinion, yes, but it’s an opinion you can trust given that I’ve tasted approximately (and conservatively) 800 brands of ice cream since I joined the Sporked crew. It’s reliably high quality. The selection of Tillamook flavors is great, although their fruit ice creams are particularly excellent.
I recently tasted all of these Tillamook flavors in a video on our YouTube channel, and a commenter thought I was being cheeky when I referred to the ice cream as “dairy-forward,” but I meant it. A lot of ice cream tastes like corn syrup, artificial flavors, and a variety of gums. Tillamook ice cream tastes like ice cream, emphasis on the cream.
I really do think it’s some of the best ice cream you can buy at the grocery store—but what’s the best Tillamook ice cream flavor of them all? That’s what I’m here to tell you. Grab a spoon and some Lactaid, and let’s talk about the best Tillamook ice cream flavors, ranked from worst (still delicious) to best (supremely delicious).

- Mountain Huckleberry
-
Let me stress that all Tillamook ice cream flavors are good—this one was just less good than the rest. My colleague Ariana Losch loved this stuff, but I couldn’t get past a slightly odd flavor that made it taste a bit like berry cough drops to me. There’s no xylitol in the ingredients, but I could swear I tasted it. Anyway, you might love this more than I did, but I think there are better Tillamook flavors on this list.

- Coffee Almond Fudge
-
This is delicious. I love the fudge swirl. But, man, I wish the coffee flavor was just a little more assertive. Coffee ice cream is best when it has a little bit of oomph. This needs more oomph, in my opinion. And not to nitpick, but I also wish the almond bits were a little bigger so they’d make more of an impression.

- Old-Fashioned Vanilla
-
Tillamook makes three kinds of vanilla ice cream: Old Fashioned Vanilla, Vanilla Bean, and French Vanilla. They’re all good, but this one tastes the most like standard birthday party vanilla ice cream to me. It’s creamy and fluffy and would taste great with a slice of pie, but it’s not the best Tillamook ice cream on this list if you’re in the mood for vanilla.

- Tillamook Mudslide
-
Tillamook Mudslide is a chocolate bomb in a good way. It contains both a ribbon of fudge and crunchy, chocolatey chips. But it didn’t rank among the best of the best Tillamook ice cream flavors because the ribbon of fudge is totally solid—as in, stiff. It tastes good, but it should be gooey. I wanted a gooey sundae in a carton, but this is just hard chocolate in two different formats. Tastes great, though!

- Chocolate Peanut Butter
-
If you’re buying this Tillamook ice cream because you’re a Peanut Butter Boy like Rhett & Link, I think you’ll be a little disappointed. Visually, I couldn’t even detect the peanut butter swirl in this carton (and I dug for it a bit). When you do get a bite of the peanut butter swirl that wends its way through this chocolate ice cream, it’s very delicious—rich and a little bit salty—but, all in all, I would’ve liked more peanutty flavor.

- Cookies & Cream
-
Tillamook Cookies & Cream didn’t rank on our list of the best cookies and cream ice cream and I think I know why: There aren’t enough cookies! It’s delicious—rich and creamy with an underlying flavor of chocolate sandwich cookies, but we tend to be freaks for mix-ins around these parts, and this tub of ice cream left me searching for more. But even middle-of-the-pack Tillamook ice cream flavors are good—swear.

- Chocolate
-
This is a totally delicious chocolate ice cream. The texture is unreal—it’s so creamy, it’s about as close as you can get to chocolate soft-serve in a tub. I have nothing critical to say about this; it’s at #8 only because other Tillamook ice cream flavors have more pizazz.

- Mint Chocolate Chip
-
This is what I’d call an “elegant” mint chip ice cream. It’s white rather than bright green—that’s classy, right? It’s also delicious—cooling and creamy with a lot of dark chocolate bits. When we ranked the best mint chocolate chip ice cream, this made the list as the “best for chocolate lovers,” and that’s a pretty good superlative, if you ask me (a chocolate lover).

- Vanilla Bean
-
I love this Tillamook vanilla ice cream…just not quite as much as I love the Tillamook vanilla ice cream in the #3 spot on our list. Granted, there isn’t a huge difference in flavor between this and the French Vanilla, but this one is just a tad sweeter and less fatty and custardy tasting. It’s still incredibly delicious and it’s still one of the best Tillamook ice cream flavors.

- Udderly Chocolate
-
This is the Tillamook ice cream flavor that made our list of the best chocolate ice creams. It consists of chocolate ice cream and white chocolate ice cream peppered with chocolatey bits. I can barely explain it, but it really does taste like both white chocolate and dark chocolate, not just a chocolate-vanilla swirl. This is a fave for a reason.

- Oregon Strawberry
-
Tillamook is an Oregon company, and I appreciate the state pride involved in hawking an Oregon strawberry ice cream. Frankly, I didn’t know strawbs were a source of Oregonian pride, but this Tillamook ice cream flavor is sufficient evidence that the enthusiasm is warranted. This is the fruitiest, freshest-tasting strawberry ice cream I’ve ever consumed. The strawberry bits are tangy and tart, and there are a lot of them, but the ice cream doesn’t get icy as a result. It’s pretty miraculous. This is our favorite strawberry ice cream of them all, and it’s certainly one of the best Tillamook ice cream flavors.

- French Vanilla
-
When I’m at the grocery store, I always gaze at the three different Tillamook vanilla ice creams and dream of buying all of them so I can determine if there is a Tillamook vanilla ice cream hierarchy. Honestly, that’s why I love this job—I get to live my dreams! LOOK AT ME GO! Anyway, there is a hierarchy, and French Vanilla is positioned atop it. This vanilla ice cream is unreal. It’s so fatty and rich and custardy tasting. For some reason, this wasn’t on our list of the best vanilla ice creams, but I’ll be fixing that soon.

- Waffle Cone Swirl
-
I love everything that’s happening in this ice cream. It’s a blend of high quality chocolate and vanilla ice creams with a caramel swirl and bits of waffle cone coated in chocolate. I will be honest: The first cone bit I got was a little mushy, but I had others that were nice and crisp inside their chocolatey coating. The caramel is sweet and a little salty. And it’s fun to dig for the waffle cone bits. This is one of those ice creams that kind of has it all, and that makes it one of the best Tillamook ice cream flavors.

- Peaches & Cream
-
In my tasting notes I wrote: “This is the best ice cream I’ve ever tasted.” I mean, that’s really a wild thing to say! But I mean it! I first tried this a few years ago at Sporked HQ and have thought about it ever since. It’s like peach ice cream on steroids—it’s peach ice cream with ripe peach pieces and a peach swirl. That’s a lot of peach, but it’s not overwhelming and it doesn’t taste like peach candy. It tastes like the freshest, sweetest peach you can imagine plucking from a tree doused in sweet, peachy cream. It’s tart. It’s juicy. It’s the best Tillamook ice cream flavor, and I insist you try it immediately. Go!
