It is once again time for the Mtn Dew you’ve all been waiting for, the crowning jewel of spooky season: Mtn Dew VooDEW! VooDEW is returning for the sixth time (in both full sugar and zero sugar) and for the second time it was made in a collaboration with a candy brand.
For those not keeping score at home, here’s what the previous years VooDEW flavors were revealed to be: 2019 was candy corn, 2020 was fruit candy explosion (inspired by Skittles), 2021 was fruit candy chews (inspired by Starbursts), 2022 was sour candy flavor (inspired by Sour Patch Kids), and 2023 was Cherry Airheads—an actual, branded collaboration.
We got our hands on a can of both the full sugar and the zero sugar, so it’s time for me to continue my role as Sporked’s resident mystery flavor detective and see if I can crack the case behind this spooky mystery DEW!
- Mtn Dew VooDEW 2024
-
Pros: This is absolutely in contention for being my favorite flavor of VooDEW, rivaling only 2020’s, which I was also a very big fan of. Immediately I am getting a very strong strawberry flavor that tastes incredibly familiar to me. My early guesses as I take my first sips are Strawberry Laffy Taffy or perhaps Strawberry Starbursts. This has a very solid candy flavor without being overly sweet, which was an issue I had with 2019’s candy corn and 2021’s fruit candy chews.
Cons: This is not the collaboration I was hoping for (I had my fingers crossed for either Swedish Fish or Caramel Apple Pops). That said, I’ve really nothing bad to say about this DEW. Everybody loves a good mystery and I am a sucker for strawberry. The only way I could see this getting better would be if it contained actual strawberry juice concentrate. (Sources tell us that the frozen version of VooDEW hitting Circle K locations will contain just that.) Otherwise, I see this one as an absolute win.

- Mtn Dew VooDEW 2024 Zero Sugar
-
Pros: I expected the zero sugar VooDEW to be a little bit lighter as zero sugar versions typically are, but this is almost equally as flavorful as the original. It’s worth noting that this zero does not contain aspartame, which I know will be a plus for many zero sugar drinkers out there. I actually ended up finishing my can of zero sugar before I finished my full sugar can, and while I don’t necessarily think it is better, it is quite drinkable.
Cons: It’s a zero sugar flavor. At the core, I feel like you either fundamentally really like zero sugar drinks or you don’t like them at all. I am a fan of them and I think this is one of Mtn Dew’s stronger zero sugar flavors, but admittedly the flavor is just a tad milder than the original and it has an aftertaste that is slightly more harsh than that of the full sugar.

What flavor is Mtn Dew VooDEW 2024?
After going back and forth, finishing both cans, asking my Magic 8 Ball as well as my cat, Pickles, I am officially ready to lock in Sporked’s official guess as: STRAWBERRY STARBURSTS. Before you grab your pitchforks and torches and form an angry mob chanting “THEY DID THAT ALREADY,” fear not, dear reader. This new VooDEW is different from the 2021 flavor, which was inspired by Starbursts. I think it is very specifically pink Starbursts flavored, and the more I drank it, the more sure I became of my prediction.
