Best Spicy Brown Mustard: Get a Little Spicy with the 5 Best You Can Buy

The best spicy brown mustard is like a punch of flavor to the face. It’s zesty and robust and acidic.

In my opinion, spicy brown mustard is chronically underrated. People keep their fridges stocked with yellow mustard, dijon mustard, and honey mustard, but spicy brown mustard is often forgotten. It shouldn’t be, though! It’s an important condiment to have on hand. It makes sausages really sing and adds snappiness to turkey sandwiches. It adds a flavorful twist to classic potato salad. For me, it can do no wrong.

We tasted a whole slew of spicy brown mustards to see which brought the spice and which left much to be desired. These were our favorites!

Great Value Spicy Brown Mustard

Great Value does it again! Their spicy brown mustard is the best on the block. It is so perfectly spicy while maintaining a great classic mustard flavor. I imagine myself squirting this onto pieces of rotisserie chicken in front of my refrigerator. If that’s not your style, I’m sure it would be great on a sandwich too. It’s the best spicy brown mustard is perfect for a mustard lover like me because an entire bottle is just a little over $1, so you can use a ton of it without breaking the bank.

Most Unique

Sir Kensington Spicy Brown Mustard

Not only is this the runner up on our best spicy brown mustard list, it’s also the best thing Sir Kensington makes. I couldn’t believe how delicious it was! As soon as it touched my lips, I was wowed by its uniqueness. It has a special hint of sweetness that sets it apart from anything else we tried. This je ne sais quoi is due to the inclusion of maple syrup. It sounds like it wouldn’t work, but it does! The spice and the sugar come together to make something that tastes like a more elevated, more mild version of McDonald’s hot mustard (which I love). This is a big “yes” for me!

Best for a Hot Dog

Kosciusko Spicy Brown Mustard

First of all, I must acknowledge the cuteness of the packaging. It comes in a tiny barrel! I don’t know what a barrel has to do with mustard, but I don’t care. I love it. And the taste is as good as the packaging is cute. It says it’s the “original” spicy brown mustard and that’s how it reads: very rustic. It tastes almost horseradish-y. It’s spicy and a little bitter in a pleasant way. This is the best spicy brown mustard for a big juicy sausage at a baseball game. Do stadiums let you BYO mustard?

Another delicious and extremely affordable option. This Deli Market spicy brown mustard beat out so many fancy, critically acclaimed mustards in our taste test. I love how unpretentious this mustard is paired with how incredible it tastes. I’ve never shopped at Dollar Tree, but between this spicy brown mustard and this person’s incredibly tasty and affordable TikTok recipes, I might be a Dollar Tree convert!

Best for Egg Salad

French’s Spicy Brown Mustard

French’s spicy brown mustard immediately reminded me of egg salad. I don’t know why. I wish I did! But the moment it touched my tongue, I thought, “Egg salad.” It has a mild mustard flavor and a strong turmeric finish that I think would be nice with other fresh ingredients like celery, onion, and egg yolk. Would it be good for other things? Yes. But, trust me: Make egg salad with this. Not an egg salad fan? It’s also the best spicy brown mustard for tuna, chicken, or potato salad. Also, does the lid on this make it look like the bottle is wearing a cowboy hat, or is it just me?
