We Tried the New Kellogg’s Wednesday Cereal

You may have already spotted Jenna Ortega’s face staring at you, menacingly, in the cereal aisle the last time you went to the store. Well, that’s thanks to the new Kellogg’s Wednesday cereal hitting shelves just in time for spooky season. (No, this cereal isn’t PR for season two of the Netflix show—apparently we’re not getting that until 2025.) The flavor is Cookies & Creme, presumably to match the show’s gothic color palette.

As a reformed goth girl who also has resting b*tch face, I watched Wednesday and liked it well enough. Supernatural serial killer mysteries will always do it for me. But will this Wednesday Addams cereal be as killer as the surprise monster serial killer of season one? Let’s find out.

Kellogg’s Wednesday Cereal Cookies & Creme

When you open up a box of Kellogg’s Wednesday cereal, you’re met with the smell of buttered popcorn—which, hey, right on theme for spooky season…I’m frightened already! Inside, you’ll find dark chocolate cocoa-coated puffs and coffin-shaped marshmallows. Cute! But does it taste good?

Pros: Here’s the “Thing” (haha, get it?) about this Wednesday cereal: You don’t want to snack on it dry. Let’s just get that out of the way. But in milk (as cereal is intended to be consumed), the flavors blend together in a way that’s slightly more pleasant than what you get straight out of the box. The dusting of what tastes like straight cocoa powder comes through with a little more sweetness, since the milk softens the bitter aftertaste. You can actually taste the cookies and creme flavor they were going for.

Cons: Kellogg’s, if you aren’t prepared to get dragged, I would look away right now. In my opinion, this should be sent straight back to the morgue. The cereal puffs smell like popcorn, taste like burnt coffee grounds, and because they’re artlessly coated in cocoa dust, look like day-old rabbit droppings. Yep. I said what I said. I think they were going for a slightly salty, Oreo-like cereal, but the whole thing is just poorly executed. The puffs (made from whole grain corn flour, which explains the smell and taste) have a strange vegetable oil flavor and bitter aftertaste that lingers. Maybe Cousin Itt would like it, but the most I can give it is four and a half stars.
