There are a lot of classic duos out there. Cookies and milk, Rhett & Link, Pete Davidson and inexplicably out-of-his-league women—you get it. Some pairings are just meant to be. But I would be remiss if I didn’t call out the most iconic duo of all: Chips and guac. And while dipping chips in guac is all well and good (and one of my favorite activities, if I’m being honest), in April 2025 we are getting the ultimate one-step chips-and-guac extravaganza. That’s right, Guacamole Doritos are back (alright!).
What do Guacamole Doritos taste like? What do you mean “back”? I have never seen these before in my life. Will they look like Shrek triangles?
While these are classified as a returning item and not a new one, it has been a looooong while since Doritos Guacamole last graced our grocery shelves.
According to an Instagram post from @snachwithzach and @teamsupernovafb (aka Sporked‘s very own Tyler Bowers), Guacamole Doritos were last seen in 2006, although some commenters claim to have seen them four or five years ago and others claim they have periodically been at H-E-B stores in Texas all along. It also seems they may have briefly shown up in Canada last fall.
The most common story though, is that they arrived in the U.S. in 2003, were gone by 2006, and that people really loved these things. As for what they tasted like, YouTube snack reviewer JustFoodReviews tried them last year in Canada said they had a Cool Ranch vibe to them, and these other Canadians said they were pretty fantastic, and while similar to Cool Ranch, definitely not a “same same but green” situation. Essentially, the flavor seems good, the color seems fun, and now all we need is the chips…which we have to wait another sixmonths for. These are supposed to hit shelves in late April 2025 and stay on shelves for roughly two months depending on how fast they go.
So if you are interested in trying out these bad boys, I say get them as soon as you can, because you can bet all those devout fans of these things who haven’t had their fix in 18 years are going to be all over them. Not to mention millennials may adopt them as a new budget form of avocado toast. Maybe these chips will singlehandedly save us enough money to afford houses one day? We can only hope.
And yes, if the Canadian ones are anything to go by, they will look like Shrek triangles.
