The best spinach artichoke dip is a top-five appetizer. Sure, it’s mostly mayonnaise and/or sour cream and/or cream cheese, but, you guys, it’s still mostly vegetable. How many dips can say that? Not queso. Not even French onion dip, and that stuff is named after a (French) vegetable. But a good, flavorful spinach dip belongs in the hall of fame of veggies. The slight bitterness and subtle sweetness of spinach cuts through fatty ingredients to give us leafy, earthy bliss. Add some artichokes to the mix, and we’re heading to tang town, baby.
In three separate taste tests, we set out to find the best spinach dip, the best spinach artichoke dip, as well as the best vegan spinach artichoke dip. We looked for dip that either tastes homemade or like it came from a restaurant kitchen. The dip itself should be creamy and chunky; anything too thin didn’t make our ranking. We wanted flavor, lots of vegetables, and, of course, seasoning, seasoning, more seasoning. Get your bread bowl ready, because this is all the best spinach at the grocery store.

- Rabbit Hole Foods Creamy Plant-Based Spinachoke Dip
-
This vegan spinach artichoke dip is loaded with tangy, citrusy artichokes. The spinach is definitely there, but the artichokes shine brightest. The tang is incredible; there’s a lot of lemon juice, vinegar, pepper, salt, and leeks to make this taste fragrant and bright. The creamy base is made from vegan mayo, so it’s missing that eggy, cheesy vibe that most spinach dip lovers crave. But this is still very thick and flavorful. It’s “vegan food can be great” exhibit A, for me. Way to go, Rabbit Hole. —Danny Palumbo

- Kite Hill Spinach Artichoke Dip
-
We still love Rabbit Hole’s Spinachoke Dip, but this new vegan spinach artichoke dip from Kite Hill is definitely the best vegan spinach dip. It’s so much zestier and cheesier and more flavorful than Rabbit Hole, but they remain tied for a few reasons. I’ll be honest: Kite Hill is a litttttle light on actual spinach and artichokes, while Rabbit Hole spinach dip is absolutely PACKED with spinach. We tried a few vegan spinach dips that were super light on spinach—why?? Last time I checked, spinach was vegan! Give us spinach! Anyway, this Kite Hill spinach dip, which is almond based, is much saltier and tangier and more fun to eat as part of a party spread. It’s thick, though. You could probably use this as a vegan bagel spread, to be perfectly honest. But it really tastes good. It’s dairy free, soy free, gluten free, non-GMO, vegan, kosher, and it’s made from live cultures. Even if you aren’t hosting vegans, people who don’t consume dairy for other reasons will definitely love this dip—in fact, I think everyone at the party will. —Gwynedd Stuart
