Best Greens Powder (That Actually Tastes Good)

What is the best greens powder? Look, if you came to Sporked looking for the best super greens powder based on RDAs and macros alone, then you came here mistakenly. While we do care about the raw benefits of greens powder, we’re all about flavor. So this is a list of the best tasting greens powder. You could choke down any old daily greens powder. But these? You’ll actually enjoy the chug.

There’s a lot of greens powder out there. For this taste test, we chose the most widely available, most popular brands that won’t completely break the bank. We also sought out greens powders that come in single servings, because not everyone is ready to plonk a massive tub of greens powder onto their counter.

We stirred a scoop of each into eight ounces of cold water and stirred until we could stir no longer. We judged them on aroma, flavor, and versatility. But we’ll let you know about the good stuff these super greens powders provide, as well.

Whether you’re just dipping your toe into the world of drinking your daily greens or are looking for a new greens powder to replace your old one that tastes like actual dirt, we found the best greens powder for you.

Garden of Life Raw Organic Perfect Food Green Superfood Juiced Greens Powder

If you want greens powder that doesn’t try to hide the fact that it is greens powder, then this longwinded product is the best superfood greens powder for you. Don’t worry, it doesn’t straight up taste like grass or even powdered kale. It tastes a bit like a really mild matcha tea powder—but without the bitterness. It tastes like a juice bar smells. It’s organic, non-GMO, and packed with all sorts of healthy-sounding things like a sprout blend, a raw probiotic and enzyme blend, and a green juice blend, which includes five types of grass! You’ve been saying you should eat more grass.

Bloom Greens & Superfoods Coconut

Best Sweet

Bloom Greens & Superfoods Coconut

Bloom greens powder comes in a few flavors, but Coconut was the best one I tried. It’s very, very sweet (it’s sweetened with stevia). And it’s very, very coconutty. But it’s somehow more mellow than any of the other Bloom flavors we tried. I don’t think it’s the best tasting greens powder in water, but it’d be good as a sweetener in a smoothie. It comes in little sticks, which are super portable and cute—easy to bring to work with you. Bloom is advertised as the best super greens powder for women, and it’s said to help relieve bloat. Who doesn’t love that promise? It includes a fiber blend, pre and probiotic blend, fruit and vegetable blend, antioxidant “beauty” blend, digestive enzyme blend, and adaptogenic blend. That’s a lot of blends that may or may not do a lot of things for you. Once again, I’m not a doctor. I’m just here to talk about flavor. And this flavor? It’s sweet, sweet coconut, baby.

8 Greens Lemon Lime Tablets

Best Citrusy

8 Greens Lemon Lime Tablets

Yes, this made our list of the best greens powder even though it isn’t technically powdered greens. Instead it’s a greens tablet, which means it’s best for people okay with dissolving their greens in water or juice rather than whirring them into a smoothie. It also means this is an extremely portable means of getting your daily greens. You just plop a tablet into water and watch it fizz. It’s fun to watch and it tastes pretty good to drink, too. Many of the flavored powdered greens I tried lean sweet, but 8 Greens is delightfully tart. It ends up tasting like any citrusy seltzer. Heck, you could dissolve one of these tablets into a glass of seltzer and you’d barely know you weren’t just drinking a LaCroix! You don’t get a gigantic selection of greens and botanicals. You get eight (makes sense): spinach, kale, aloe vera, wheatgrass, blue green algae, barley grass, chlorella, and spirulina. And for many of us (specifically Dick Van Patten), eight is enough. (That was a joke about an ABC dramedy that ended before I was even born.)

Huel Daily Greens Original

Best for Smoothies

Huel Daily Greens Original

If you would rather not know you were drinking a lot of green plants and instead pretend you’re drinking a tropical drink on an island, then Huel makes the best daily greens powder for you. It’s heavy on the pineapple and coconut flavor. Just stirred into water it tastes like a smoothie. So imagine how well it would work in an actual smoothie. If you already have a daily smoothie or smoothie bowl, this is the best tasting greens powder to add to your recipe. Even if you don’t make your own smoothies, you can get this in single serve pouches so you can take it with you and add to a smoothie you buy. Want to talk about what’s actually in it? This puppy boasts not only a plant-based protein and superfood blend, but also greens with antioxidant properties, superfruits, probiotics, and even an adaptogen and super mushroom complex.

Athletic Greens AG1

Best of the Best

Athletic Greens AG1

I have been hearing about AG1 on podcasts for a long time so I was excited to finally get to taste it to see if it’s actually good or just a company with a lot of podcast ad money to spend. Well, it’s actually good. It’s very slightly sweetened but you can still taste the greens. Stirred into water, it tastes a bit like the sweet smell of freshly cut grass. Are you of the age to remember the Gap Grass perfume? It tastes a little like that smelled. You’re not going to savor every sip but it’s extremely easy to drink. And that makes it the best daily greens powder for my money because you can sip it on its own or you can use it in a smoothie. And what’s in AG1? Well, you’re getting a superfood complex, a blend of herbs and antioxidants, a digestive enzyme and super mushroom complex, and dairy-free probiotics. If you’re at all on the fence about AG1 and you’re okay with the slightest flavor of greens, then go ahead and take the plunge. It’s the best greens powder I tried.
