The best Campbell’s Chunky soups are satisfying, hearty, and packed with flavor. Each spoonful should feel cozy and complete, simmering with robust ingredients and broth that’s basically liquid comfort.
Soup season is finally here. (For most people located farther away from the equator, it’s been here.) Now that Southern California finally has a chill in the air, we took on a big task: taste-testing all the flavors of Campbell’s Chunky Soup. America’s favorite, an icon in her own right, a true soup-erstar, if you will. We dove into the Campbell’s lineup to find the best of the best, ranking the cans that stand out for flavor, texture, and all-around satisfaction. Here are the seven best cans of Campbell’s Chunky soup to keep your bellies and hearts warm through the holiday season.

- Campbell’s Chunky Baked Potato with Cheddar & Bacon Bits
-
Disclaimer: This is not for people who don’t like bacon or the flavor of fake bacon (there’s real bacon in this Campbell’s Chunky soup, but there’s also added smoke flavor). But if neither of those turn you off and you also like to eat soft, cheesy, creamy potatoes in just about any form, this might be the best Campbell’s Chunky soup for you. It’s incredibly filling, and smoky in a way that appeals to me but won’t appeal to everyone (see: initial inquiry about the fake bacon flavor). Do I wish this soup was cheesier? Sure. But I don’t keep shredded cheese in my fridge for nothing.

- Campbell’s Chunky Pub-Style Chicken Pot Pie
-
Throw “pub-style” in front of anything, and I just know I’m going to find it comforting. This can of Campbell’s Chunky Pub-Style Pot Pie soup is no exception. It’s a deconstructed chicken pot pie, packed with chicken (theoretically, but we struggled to find much of it), peas, carrots, and dumplings. Yes, as my colleague Jordan Myrick pointed out during our taste test, the best part of a normal pot pie is the crust—which you can’t get from a canned soup. But you can always bring your own biscuit into the equation. Plus, the doughy dumplings remind me of crust, and honestly? They’re pretty satisfying.

- Campbell’s Chunky New England Clam Chowder
-
I’m from Florida. I take clam chowder very seriously. Campbell’s Chunky Clam Chowder is thick, creamy, and packed with bold, briny clam flavor—and while most of it is probably coming from clam juice, not fresh from the sea, I have to give credit where credit is due. For a canned clam chowder, this is pretty darn yummy. The potatoes are chunky and soft. It needs a generous helping of black pepper, but it’s a good base for however you want to season it. And yes, you will munch on some sand now and again. That’s how you know it’s authentic!

- Campbell’s Chunky Hearty Bean & Ham
-
“Hey, if you love baked beans, why the hell not?” is the first thing I wrote in my notes on this Campbell’s chunky soup. And I stand by the sentiment. The ham adds a pleasant smokiness to the perfectly cooked beans, and the carrots are extra chunky and a little firm. Texturally, this one is pretty pleasing. If I found myself out in the middle of the woods, I’d happily let a burly outdoorsman serve this to me over a camping stove. Do with that information what you will.

- Campbell’s Chunky Chicken Corn Chowder
-
Like some other dairy-forward Campbell’s chunky soups, I thought this might taste like gelatinous sludge. Nope! This soup has just the right amount of creaminess. The flavor is slightly sweet and deeply nostalgic. My one and only note is that the potatoes taste like they need to be cooked more, since they come out a little grainy. Otherwise, this corn chowder really turned this taste-test around.

- Campbell’s Chunky Old Bay Seasoned Clam Chowder
-
Hot damn, this is yummy. Anyone who finds the regular Campbell Chunky clam chowder too bland will really enjoy this. It’s aromatic, spicy, and extra savory. Floridians, take note: we need to put Old Bay (or really just any cajun seasoning) in our clam chowders more often. Also, don’t skip the oyster crackers, because they will never taste more flavorful. Sporked editor-in-chief Justine Sterling even suggests pouring this stuff over french fries…which honestly sounds insanely good. This made our ranking of the best clam chowder for a reason.

- Campbell’s Chunky Chicken Noodle Soup
-
I didn’t want to do this. I didn’t want to be boring, okay? But Campbell’s Chunky Chicken Noodle checks every box. As the country’s quintessential chicken noodle soup, it knows what it has to live up to, and by golly, it delivers. The broth is super, savory, salty, and thicker than you’d expect—without delving into stew territory. The chicken isn’t mushy, but it still maintains a soft, moist tenderness to it that’s simply ideal in a premade chicken noodle soup. The thickness of the spiral noodle is oddly comforting, too. This didn’t make our ranking of the best chicken noodle soups (hey, there are some tasty ones out there), but this is still the best Campbell’s Chunky soup.
