New Mtn Dew Game Fuel Intel! Everything We Know

I’m so glad Mtn Dew Game Fuel is here to stay. When I started covering the soda news beat back in 2021, I was always hearing about the original Game Fuel flavor: Halo 3 Game Fuel, Citrus Cherry Game Fuel, Master Chief Game Fuel, etc. Whatever they called it, I always had to sheepishly admit I’d never tried it. Finally, after years of public begging, Mtn Dew brought back the fan-favorite flavor in 2023 to an overwhelming response. It must have done pretty well for PepsiCo, because we’re going back into the vault yet again in 2024.

Mtn Dew Game Fuel Citrus Cherry is returning to shelves this fall alongside a new Game Fuel flavor called Citrus Blackberry. I covered that latter flavor earlier this year, when it was still called “Midnight Mission” internally. (At that time, the flavor was described as exclusively “blackberry,” but it appears they’ve since added a secret citrus ingredient to the concoction.) Thanks to some digging, we’ve got new information—namely, the video game franchise these flavors will be promoting!

What game will be featured on these new Mtn Dew Game Fuel Flavors?

Now that Mtn Dew Game Fuel flavors are back in regular rotation, it’s hard to believe they ever left. An annual excuse for the iconic gaming soda, Mtn Dew, to collaborate with whatever video game is hot at the time? That’s easy money! Can you believe there’s never been a Minecraft Game Fuel? Or Fortnite? We can probably do without a Grand Theft Auto flavored soda, to be honest… Giant, record-setting video game franchises are missing one key accolade in their trophy cabinet. And this year, the coveted slot goes to, of all things, World of Warcraft.

And they’re both World of Warcraft flavored?

Yes! While most two-flavor Game Fuel promotions have promoted two separate franchises, both of these returning/new Mtn Dew Game Fuel flavors will be branded with World of Warcraft this time around.

It isn’t the first time two Game Fuel flavors have promoted World of Warcraft, either! All the way back in 2009, Mtn Dew released Horde Red (the same flavor as Halo 3 Citrus Cherry, which had been released two years earlier) and Alliance Blue as Game Fuel flavors. You might remember the unique ad campaign that surrounded this release, including this commercial with some… charming CGI.

When are these new Game Fuel flavors hitting shelves?

Per our sources, both Citrus Cherry and Citrus Blackberry Game Fuel will be hitting grocery and convenience shelves starting in November. Last year, both Game Fuel flavors ended up understocked given the ravenous demand; if you’re dying to pledge your allegiance to the Horde or Alliance, you’ll want to keep your eyes out for these.
