The post We Tried the Mountain Dew Blue Shock Slurpee appeared first on Sporked.

]]>
Mountain Dew recently surprised us with the news that Blue Shock Slurpee would be returning exclusively to 7-Eleven and Speedway. It’s described as a blue raspberry citrus flavor, which has led to many fans wondering how this Mountain Dew flavor compares to Voltage—or even if it’s just the same flavor in disguise. I’m on the case, and after a quick stop by a local Speedway store, I’m ready to tell you my thoughts on the returning Mountain Dew Slurpee.

Mountain Dew Blue Shock Slurpee

New Slurpee Flavor!

Mountain Dew Blue Shock Slurpee

Pros: This quite literally tastes like the original Mountain Dew—but blue. You know what I mean. There’s a sort of generalized “blue” flavor that folks think of when they think of a generic blue raspberry flavored Icee or treat. This tastes like a perfect blend of that blue flavor mixed with original Mountain Dew. And I mean that in the best way possible. It is fantastic. I think it does a great job at differentiating itself from Voltage, because you don’t get notes of classic Dew from Voltage like you do here.

Cons: Mountain Dew is known for their wacky and crazy innovative flavors, but if you’re looking for one of those, you won’t find it here. My only other critique is the same complaint that I have regarding all frozen drinks, which is that it melts too fast and the taste diminishes significantly when it starts to melt. But I am fully willing to accept that as a user error.

The post Every 2024 Mountain Dew Flavor, Ranked appeared first on Sporked.

]]>
There has been so many good returning and new Mountain Dew flavors this year. And while we are excited for the new Mountain Dew flavors coming in 2025, we also want to take a moment to reflect back on the Mountain Dews of 2024—a Dew-wind, if you will. Which returning and new Mountain Dew flavors were the best and deserve another release, and which ones should stay in the past? I still have a can of each flavor that released in 2024, so let’s retry them ALL and rank ‘em!

Mountain Dew Baja Blast (Honorable Mention)

While it didn’t feel right to include this in the ranking overall, I had to throw Baja Blast into the mix as it did drop permanently this year as part of its 20th anniversary celebration. Baja Blast is undeniably one of the greatest Dews of all time. Our sources tell us that it is singlehandedly the best selling flavor of Mountain Dew other than Original, and I can’t say that I am surprised. There is just something special about the tropical flavor you get when you crack open a Baja Blast. I can’t say that I have ever had a drink that is anything like it. It’s absolutely unique and its place on the permanent lineup is totally earned.

Mountain Dew Freedom Fusion

I’ll admit, the initial wave of excitement you get when you try a new flavor has worn off for the patriotic trio and I’m going to be a little harder on Freedom Fusion than when I initially tried it. Unlike my initial review, I now get a lot more of the lemonade flavor than I did when I first tasted this peach-lemonade Mountain Dew flavor. I think that makes it a little bit less desirable. While I think the flavor worked well as a Slurpee, I’m loving this one as much as I did initially.

Should it come back? I’d love to see the Freedom Fusion Slurpee make a return to 7-Eleven and Speedway. But as Pepsi cut the planned 2025 return for Freedom Fusion, I wouldn’t expect to see it any time soon.

Mountain Dew Infinite Swirl

While 7-Eleven Exclusive Infinite Swirl and its pineapple berry flavor are quite pleasant, I think the pineapple shines better in Baja Point Break Punch and I think the berry shines more in Star Spangled Splash. Pretty good, but other flavors got it done a little bit better.

Should it come back? As of now, Infinite Swirl is still an exclusive Mountain Dew flavor at 7-Eleven and Speedway, so you still have an opportunity to grab it.

Mountain Dew Baja Point Break Punch

Baja Point Break Punch is Baja Blast spinoffs of all time. It’s got a really great classic fruit punch flavor to it, combining the flavors of raspberries and pineapple really well. That said, when compared to all of the other 2024 flavors of Mountain Dew, I can’t say that it stands out.

Should it come back?
I think part of the charm of the Baja spinoffs is that Mountain Dew tries something new every year. Although I like this flavor, I’d rather see what’s next rather than this one again. (I’m personally hoping for a Tiger’s Blood Icee-inspired Baja Blast spinof—watermelon, strawberry, and coconut, for those not familiar.)

Mountain Dew Liberty Chill

While I love the Krabby Patty gummy-like flavor that the patriotic Dew presents, I don’t love that it promises 50 flavors in one Dew when it is definitely only one. That said, I’d definitely pick it up again.

Should it come back? Maybe in a few years, but I don’t think it needs to come back any time soon (and Pepsi seemingly agrees, having cancelled the planned 2025 release).

Mountain Dew Game Fuel Citrus Blackberry

I was disappointed that this ended up being raspberry blackberry instead of the purely blackberry flavor we’d initially heard we were going to get. While I certainly don’t dislike Game Fuel Citrus Blackberry and will happily drink it while it’s on shelves, it is very raspberry forward and reminds me much of Mountain Dew Spark.

Should it come back? I’d love to see a pure Blackberry Game Fuel. But as for Citrus Blackberry? I think it can stay in 2024.

Mountain Dew Baja Laguna Lemonade

If you’re not a mango fan, this Baja Blast spinoff definitely wasn’t for you as it was almost entirely mango. But I am a mango man, so I’m letting my bias show here. Laguna Lemonade was fantastic. To date, it is my favorite Baja spinoff of all time!

Should it come back? Baja spinoffs are sort of like VooDEW—they’re new every year, and I think repeating a flavor would take away from the fun of it. Laguna Lemonade was an absolute treat and I hope that next year’s Cabo Citrus tops it and stuns me once again!

Mountain Dew VooDEW 6.0

We were big fans of both the soda and Froster versions of the 2024 VooDEW. Sipping this VooDEW soda still gives me an incredible strawberry experience, which I think beats out every other VooDEW flavor (except for, perhaps, 2020’s Fruit Candy Explosion VooDEW aka Skittles).

Should it come back? By nature, it doesn’t really make sense for Mountain Dew to re-DEW a VooDEW flavor (particularly since VooDEW is not even getting a release in 2025). Will I miss it though? Absolutely.

Mountain Dew Star Spangled Splash

It pains me to my core that the 2025 release of Star Spangled Splash was cancelled. I originally spoke highly of Star Spangled Splash, and I am still just as hooked on it. The natural strawberry flavor combined with the hint of raspberry makes for the absolute perfect summer flavor. It’s easily the best patriotic DEW I have ever had. This is my favorite Mountain Dew release in the last decade that is not named Pitch Black or Citrus Cherry Game Fuel.

Should it come back? While it isn’t coming back in 2025, here’s hoping it returns one day. I would love to see it be made into a Slurpee a la Freedom Fusion at 7-Eleven.

Mountain Dew Game Fuel Citrus Cherry

Game Fuel Citrus Cherry has been in my personal top three best Mountain Dew flavors of all time basically since I first tasted it. That combination of cherry and citrus fuels you while you’re gaming (whether or not you’re actually playing World of Warcraft), and it leaves you wanting more. Though it’s a close fight between Citrus Cherry and Star Spangled Splash, Citrus Cherry is the best Mountain Dew flavor released in 2024.

Should it come back? It should come back and it will be back in 2025! Our sources have indicated that Game Fuel is likely to be back to the annual release status it had previously.

The post The New Trolli Gummi Pops Are Some of the Strangest Things We’ve Ever Eaten appeared first on Sporked.

]]>
Trolli has been taking up our feeds lately. And everyone has been talking about their new frozen Gummi Pops, which according to their website, promise a one-of-a-kind “soft chewy gummi texture.” At the time of publication, there are two flavors available and we tried them both.

What I found to be interesting about these Gummi Pops is that you can lick them or bite them. I prefer licking them. Biting into them is, understandably, like biting into a frozen gummy worm. And, yes, they are just as wiggly and wobbly as the box suggests. The question is: Do these live up to the hype? Or are they all talk? Read on to find out.

Trolli Gummi Pop Cherry Lemon

Cherry Lemon

Trolli Gummi Pop Cherry Lemon

Pros: I am incredibly intrigued by the texture. Trolli was not playing around when they said this was a “Gummi Pop.” This is unlike anything I’ve ever had before; it does not remind me of a popsicle at all. It is very gummy worm-like—but cold. And I quite enjoy it! Even though this is my least favorite Trolli flavor, I do really enjoy this Trolli Gummi Pop.

Cons: If you’re a person who is thrown off by unexpected textures, you may not enjoy these popsicles. It is very different from any other frozen treat on the market. I will also acknowledge that cherry is often a polarizing flavor. It’s still much better than I expected, though! One other thing I will note here (which is not necessarily a con for me, but I know will be for some), is that it’s very sweet and not very sour. Certainly not the sour I would expect from a Trolli product!

Trolli Gummy Pop Grape Strawberry

Grape Strawberry

Trolli Gummy Pop Grape Strawberry

Pros: Two of my favorite flavors, strawberry and grape, combined together on this to make an incredible Gummi Pop experience. Grape Strawberry is very potentially my favorite Trolli flavor and I think this is very accurate to the Trollis themselves. I am definitely a little bit biased towards anything strawberry, but I think Trolli really nails the strawberry flavor on this one.

Cons: Since I tried this one second and it sat out of the freezer a little bit longer, the texture was a little bit less desirable as it sort of started half “melting.” I can’t count that against this flavor specifically, but it’s a con for the Gummi Pops as a whole. Once again, it’s not very sour, so if you are a sour flavor seeker, you may be disappointed. All in all, though, this pop is phenomenal.

We recently brought you the list of what flavors of Mountain Dew to expect in 2025. Among them was the news that fan-favorite annual spookytime mystery flavor VooDEW would not be returning for a seventh iteration—but at that time, we didn’t know what was slated to replace it. Now, thanks to snachfluencer SnachWithZach, we have the details. Here’s the deal with the 2025 Halloween Mountain Dew flavor.

What’s the 2025 Halloween Mountain Dew flavor?

In lieu of a VooDEW flavor, Mountain Dew is reportedly teaming up with Trolli to release a flavor that will feature the brand name and flavor right on the label! The flavor of this collaboration will be cherry lemon, a popular flavor of Trolli candy. No mysteries to solve this time, dear readers.

When will this new Mountain Dew flavor collab be available?

Our sources tell us that this collaboration is going to be available the same time of year that VooDEW was traditionally available. So, you can expect it to start appearing in September and be available through the end of spooky season.

Will it be available in zero sugar?

Yes! Mountain Dew Trolli Cherry Lemon will be available in both full sugar and zero sugar in bottles and cans. No one misses out on this drop!

Even though it won’t be a mystery to solve as it was in years past, this new Mountain Dew flavor collaboration still has us very excited and I’ve already added it to my 2025 hunt list. Have you?

Soup season is well underway, and while everyone has their favorite soups, sometimes you gotta switch it up and go for a new one. That’s where Proper Good and their brand new Cheeseburger Soup and Pepperoni Pizza Soup come in. Both tout that they are high in protein (10g for the Cheeseburger and 11g for the Pizza) and gluten free and come in neat microwaveable pouches—something I can’t say I’ve seen before in the microwaveable soup game. Proper Good also donates one meal for every social media post in which they’re tagged (their handle is @EatProperGood). So, that’s nice! And you can find them nationwide in Walmart.

But how do these new soups taste? Does pizza or cheeseburger work as a liquid? Let’s find out.

Proper Good Pepperoni Pizza Soup

Pepperoni Pizza Soup

Proper Good Pepperoni Pizza Soup

Pros: Right away I’m hit with Italian seasoning and spices that take me to pizza. The flavors of oregano, paprika, and pepper are really strong—unexpectedly strong for a grocery store soup. It’s also got chunks of pepperoni in it and they taste really, really great. My fear was that this would just taste like your average tomato soup but it most certainly does not. You definitely get the pepperoni pizza experience from this soup.

Cons: There’s added sugar in this soup, and it was noticeable for the first few bites. And I do think that the spices are a little bit overblown. While I found myself really enjoying them initially, the spices lingered a bit too long on the aftertaste. I found myself wishing that the soup was a bit thicker, too—maybe it just needs more pepperoni chunks.

Proper Good Cheeseburger Soup

Cheeseburger Soup

Proper Good Cheeseburger Soup

Pros: This soup takes virtually all of my “cons” from the pizza soup and does away with them. It is nice and thick, featuring big chunks of potato and beef, and while I still get hints of oregano and other spices, the seasoning level is much more muted with this soup. It’s hearty and pleasant.

Cons: While this a very good tasting soup that I’d definitely consider picking up again, I don’t necessarily get cheeseburger vibes from it. Since it’s labeled as cheeseburger soup, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little bit disappointed. I don’t really get any cheese and the meat is not seasoned or prepared in a way that would remind you of eating a burger. Although it’s good and I would still recommend it, it is not cheeseburger soup.

We’ve said it a few times, but 2024 has been an absolutely stellar year for soda and snack releases. And just when we thought the year couldn’t possibly get any better, Pepsi has swooped in with a surprise release that absolutely none of us saw coming: limited edition Pepsi Gingerbread Zero Sugar. It’s coming very soon, it won’t be out for long, and we need it immediately! Here’s everything we know about this new Pepsi flavor.

What will Pepsi Gingerbread taste like?

First off, no, they didn’t puree and carbonate Gingy from Shrek. No gingerbread men were harmed in the making of this new Pepsi flavor. Pepsi tells us that this flavor blends the classic taste of Pepsi with a festive mix of brown sugar, cinnamon, ginger, and molasses. Sign us right up!

How can I get Pepsi Gingerbread?

There are two ways you’ll be able to get your hands on a mini can of Pepsi Gingerbread Zero Sugar (yep, only available in mins):

 1. Starting December 4th, you can secure a can by purchasing two packs of Pepsi mini cans (any flavor) from Pepsi’s Tiktok shop. Pepsi told us that supplies will be limited—so be fast!
 2. Don’t want to spend your hard earned cash? Also starting December 4th, you’ll be able to enter for a chance to win a can on Pepsi.com.

Will there be a full sugar Pepsi Gingerbread?

We don’t say this often (and usually it’s the other way around), but this new Pepsi flavor will only be available in zero sugar.

Will I ever be able to buy Pepsi Gingerbread in stores?

Unfortunately for now, it seems that Pepsi is keeping Pepsi Gingerbread as a limited edition flavor available only on their website and Tiktop shop. No store release is planned for now—but perhaps if the reception for it is good we could see one!

Is Pepsi Gingerbread a good idea?

Stay tuned! We’ll post our review the second we get our hands on a can.

When my good friend and fellow content creator in the food space SnachWithZach broke the news that Quaker would be releasing Maple Bacon Oatmeal, I knew it was something I needed to track down! It seems to be exclusive to Walmart—though it’s worth mentioning that not every Walmart carries it. I checked several and hunted for a few weeks, but I finally found a box and am ready to give it a try to see if it lives up to my high expectations of all things bacon.

Quaker Maple Bacon Instant Oatmeal

New Instant Oatmeal!

Quaker Maple Bacon Instant Oatmeal

Pros: It’s edible. It’s funny to put that in the “pro” section, but when I opened the packaging up, I was immediately hit with a wave of artificial bacon that had me questioning my purchase. Luckily, it didn’t taste the way it smelled. I did finish the bowl. And the maple flavor is very pleasant and not too sweet.

Cons: I’ve never been one to take the pictures on food packaging too literally, but this box shows pictures of bacon on the oatmeal. So, I was hoping there would at least be bacon bits mixed into the oatmeal or something. Alas, the only bacon is the artificial flavoring and I’ve got to be completely honest with you; you can barely taste it. This is Maple Bacon Oatmeal. I can’t help but feel disappointed that they skimped on the bacon.

All and all, it’s an interesting concept, but Quaker unfortunately just doesn’t really deliver on the bacon. It’s similar enough to Quaker Maple & Brown Sugar Oatmeal that I can’t see myself seeking out Maple Bacon again.

The holidays are a magical time of year filled with lots and lots of different sodas (and the not-as-festive Monster Dew Game Fuel), including the soda we’re reviewing today. It’s the first new Starry flavor that has been released since Starry launched in January of 2023. It’s Starry Cranberry Blizz!

The can describes it as “lemon lime cranberry flavor with other natural flavors.” What is most notable about this release is that it is available in zero sugar only. While fans of full sugar beverages can currently snag a cranberry-infused Starry at KFC for the holidays as part of their cranberry menu, we aren’t counting that. So, let’s crack into Starry Cranberry Blizz (zero sugar) and see how it is!

Starry Cranberry Blizz Zero Sugar

New Holiday Starry!

Starry Cranberry Blizz Zero Sugar

Pros: I’m going to say something controversial. I think Starry is fantastic—better than Sierra Mist (I’d go as far to call it Sierra Midst). And I think the cranberry flavor of seasonal Starry is fantastic. It manages to be both very light and flavorful, and works really well with the lemon-lime flavor. I could absolutely see this being used to make some fantastic holiday cocktails (I’m brainstorming some right now). Another massive pro here is unlike Sierra Mist Cranberry Splash, Starry Cranberry Blizz does NOT use Red 40. There are no dyes involved.

Cons: I hate to fault a zero sugar soda for being a zero sugar soda, but I can’t help but wonder if the cranberry flavor would come through a little stronger if there was a full sugar option. Next year, Starry, let’s get a full sugar version in bottles and cans.

]]>
It’s the moment Mountain Dew fans have been waiting for all year: the return of fan favorite Game Fuel Citrus Cherry (which originally released way back in 2007 as a promotion for Halo 3) and the arrival of brand new Game Fuel Citrus Blackberry. As one of Sporked’s resident Mountain Dew connoisseurs, I have acquired both Mountain Dew Game Fuel flavors and tasted them to find out if they’re worth all of the hype.

Mountain Dew Game Fuel Citrus Blackberry

New Mtn Dew Flavor!

Mountain Dew Game Fuel Citrus Blackberry

Pros: Even though this new Game Fuel flavor is called Citrus Blackberry, the flavor is described as having a “blackberry raspberry flavor” on the packaging. The berry flavors and the citrus come together in a very satisfying way. It is a good addition to the Game Fuel line. Fans of Mountain Dew Spark (which of course, includes Rhett & Link, who ranked it as their #1 favorite flavor of Mountain Dew) will be happy to know that this flavor is quite reminiscent of the soon-to-be-discontinued Spark. It certainly smells like Spark.

Cons: There’s a disturbing lack of blackberry flavor here. You get it in the aftertaste, but the flavor is largely dominated by the raspberry. Considering how many other flavors of Mountain Dew this year that have featured raspberry (specifically Baja Point Break Punch and Star Spangled Splash), it’s a little disappointing that the raspberry doesn’t take the backseat here a little bit more. I would have much preferred to see a blackberry dominated flavor. While this is still a solid flavor addition to the Game Fuel line, I can’t help but wonder what it could have been.

Mountain Dew Game Fuel Citrus Cherry

New Mtn Dew Flavor!

Mountain Dew Game Fuel Citrus Cherry

Pros: Folks, I won’t mince words. There is a lot of hype surrounding this flavor—and I’m here to tell you that all of it is absolutely correct. The blend of citrus and cherry comes together to form an iconic flavor that just simply can’t be beaten (except by Mountain Dew Supernova, of course). It manages to differentiate itself from Code Red by featuring a more natural Cherry flavor (it has clarified cherry juice in the ingredients) and a kick of citrus flavor you don’t find in Code Red. This flavor frequently sells out quickly every time PepsiCo releases it and there is a good reason. It is absolutely phenomenal.

Cons: The only con here is that PepsiCo has not released this iconic Game Fuel flavor as a permanent flavor. For now, we know it will return in 2025. Maybe one day PepsiCo will annoint it with the ever-elusive “permanent” status.

The wait is finally over: the new 7UP Shirley Temple is finally here and after a little bit of hunting (and asking several friends and having some shipped across the country—specifically the zero sugar version—thanks, Joe) I got my hands on this new 7UP flavor in both full sugar and zero sugar. So, let’s crack them open, sing the “Animal Crackers” song, and find out if these canned Shirley Temples were worth all that effort.

7UP Shirley Temple

New 7UP Flavor!

7UP Shirley Temple

Pros: Folks, this is a tasty drink. My beverage of choice is a nice Tequila Sunrise, so I am definitely familiar with the flavor of grenadine and I’m definitely picking it up here. The flavor is a little heavier on the pomegranate rather than the cherry, which is definitely a pro for me. All in all, I think the Shirley Temple mocktail has been pretty accurately recreated here! Well done 7UP!

Cons: You may not like this if sweet drinks aren’t your thing. I had a friend mention that they believed this tasted like Trix cereal. And I kind of agree, but largely because it has that same “sugary sweet” vibe. While it doesn’t ruin the drink for me, it definitely may for some.

7UP Shirley Temple Zero Sugar

New 7UP Flavor!

7UP Shirley Temple Zero Sugar

Pros: The fact that that this new 7UP flavor comes as a zero sugar soda at all is definitely a pro. Many soda companies have seemed to opt out of the zero options lately. Good on you, 7UP! The 7UP Shirley Temple Zero Sugar tastes much more cherry forward. I’m getting a lot less of the grenadine flavor than I did with the full sugar version. This could be a pro or a con, depending on how you feel about cherry.

Cons: Aspartame is used as the sweetener and boy does it kick in hard in the aftertaste. While I do believe there are zero sugar sodas made with aspartame that taste good, the sweeteners in 7UP Shirley Temple Zero Sugar overpower the flavor of the soda even before the aftertaste hits you. The taste left in my mouth is very, very unpleasant.

Good news for lovers of Reese’s snacks everywhere: In addition to the Sugar Cookie Big Cup hitting stores now and the Red Velvet cups hitting early next year, Hershey’s (maker Reese’s) has another trick up their sleeves for the year of our snacks, 2025. And the newest Reese’s flavor is actually not just one but two flavors. Welcome to the party, Reese’s PB&J Grape and Reese’s PB&J Strawberry.

Reese’s PB&J!? Tell me more

Thanks to the dynamic snack duo of SnachWithZach and Team Supernova, we have learned that Reese’s has plans to release Peanut Butter & Jelly Reese’s Cups in 2025. Unlike the new PB&J M&M’s, which are flavored to taste like generic “berry” jelly, sources say that there will be not one, but two flavor options for the Reese’s PB&J Cups: grape jelly and strawberry jelly. If you grew up eating PB&J sandwiches as a kid, you no doubt have a strong opinion on the superior jelly. So you’ll for sure have a strong opinion on which new Reese’s flavor is the best. Apologies to the raspberry jelly devotees who will be left out entirely.

Where can I find these new Reese’s flavors?

Where he at (where he at). There he go (there he go). (Anyone writing about this new Reese’s flavor is contractually obligated to reference Peanut Butter Jelly Time.) Sources tell us that you’ll be able to find these new Reese’s flavors anywhere that the brand is sold. Stores will have the option of ordering the PB&J Reese’s Cups in February and it looks like they will be widely available in April. So, mark your calendars now.

Mountain Dew Is Cutting 3 Flavors in 2025 (But They’re Bringing Back a Fan Favorite) https://sporked.com/article/mountain-dew-patriotic-flavors-2025-news/ https://sporked.com/article/mountain-dew-patriotic-flavors-2025-news/#comments Mon, 28 Oct 2024 18:40:06 +0000 https://sporked.com/?p=43453 Find out what to expect from this summer shakeup!

We recently shared a ton of not-so-great news from Pepsi detailing all the flavors of Mountain Dew, Pepsi, and Rockstar that will be getting the ax next year. But wait, there’s more. We’ve gotten word that the 2025 Mountain Dew lineup has received a little bit of a shakeup—and there’s good news and bad news.

The Bad News: Bye, Bye Patriotic Dews

The bad news is that the red, white, and blue Dews are NOT returning in summer of 2025 as was originally planned. According to super snack duo Team Supernova and SnachWithZach, Star Spangled Splash, Freedom Fusion, and Liberty Chill had an unexpected amount of product go to waste. In other words, the cans passed their best by dates while sitting on the shelf, leading to a loss for PepsiCo. So, the company opted to pull the plug on the previously planned return for 2025.

The Good News: Summer Freeze Is Coming Back

Thankfully the news isn’t all red, white, and gloom. In place of the patriotic Mountain Dew trio, PepsiCo has decided to bring Summer Freeze back in June of 2025. Unfortunately, this is the only Mountain Dew flavor that is teed up for a summer release at this time. But fans of the bomb pop-inspired soda will be happy to see it return to the United States after a successful release in Canada and Honduras in 2024.

In more good news, Summer Freeze will once again be released in both regular and zero sugar. This is HUGE for zero sugar drinkers as, originally, a zero sugar Dew was not planned for next summer!

Even when everything seems to be set in stone, PepsiCo likes to keep us on our toes. Here’s hoping the next time we bring you a story about Mountain Dew it’s all good Dew news!
