The best minestrone soup is savory, salty, and packed with vegetables. It should contain al dente pasta and perfect cooked beans—even if it’s canned minestrone soup. Most importantly, it should actually taste good and not like an afterthought.
So many canned minestrone soup brands we tasted were watery and sad. You know when you throw together leftovers in a pot and they should taste good but they just end up tasting like nothing? That’s what most of these canned minestrone soups were giving.
Luckily, we found a few that really knocked our socks off. If you are a soup lover, read this list and go buy the best minestrone soup you can get at the grocery store.
- Signature Cafe Minestrone Soup
-
While this didn’t taste like traditional canned minestrone soup to me, I loved it! It felt like a new take on the classic soup. It had a little bit of a roasted red pepper flavor and it was packed with veggies, including tiny cubes of zucchini that were cute and delicious. The only real downside is that this is from the refrigerated deli section, so it’s not shelf stable and won’t last as long. But when soup tastes this good, does it really need to last a long time?

- Progresso Gluten Free Minestrone
-
Progresso Gluten Free Minestrone is delicious. This is huge news for the gluten free community! The gluten-less noodles are extra firm, so they hold up perfectly in the can. The broth is also a little thicker than most of these other canned minestrone soup brands, which I loved. It made it feel heartier. This stuff is so good that I would recommend this minestrone soup even if you aren’t gluten intolerant.

- Campbell’s Well Yes! Plant-Powered Minestrone Soup
-
Surprisingly, most of the minestrone soup options on the market are not vegetarian. They use beef or chicken broth! Luckily, Campbell’s Well Yes! Plant-Powered Minestrone gives you all the flavor without any of the animal products. This is one of the best canned minestrone soup options at the grocery store because it is light while remaining flavorful. A hint of cheese in the broth gives it a wonderful nutty, umami-ness. I’d definitely buy this minestrone again.

- Campbell’s Condensed Minestrone
-
Keep the old saying “don’t judge a book by its cover” in mind when you crack open this canned minestrone soup. I opened the can and thought, “No, thank you.” But, I’m sorry, Campbell’s! I was wrong! I should’ve known. Campbell’s condensed soups are almost always good (they scored big in our best chicken noodle soup and best cream of mushroom soup rankings). This stuff is tomato-y, salty, and savory. There are tons of vegetables. The pasta isn’t too mushy. Not only is this the cheapest option, it’s some of the best canned minestrone soup you can buy in general.

- Campbell’s Chunky Minestrone with Italian Sausage
-
Campbell’s takes the top three spots in our canned minestrone soup taste test, making them the official brand to buy if you want the best minestrone soup, period. When it comes to Campbell’s best variety of minestrone soup, this one takes the cake—or, the oyster cracker, I guess. Campbell’s Chunky Minestrone with Italian Sausage has hacked minestrone. Minestrone needs sausage! The fatty, meaty, savoriness does wonders for this veggie soup. They pack this stuff with two types of sausage (both sliced sausage and chunks of ground sausage), tons of vegetables, al dente pasta, and a great broth. Campbell’s, are you secretly Italian?
