Outside of Red Bull, energy drink companies don’t tend to do anything too special during the wintertime. The classic Christmas flavors don’t lend themselves super well to energy drinks. As far as I know, no one is asking for a sugar cookie-flavored Monster Energy. So, it was a surprise (and delight) when a beverage distributor posted an early look at an upcoming new Alani Nu Energy flavor called Winter Wonderland.
So, what does Winter Wonderland taste like?
I wish I knew. While we have a high-quality render of the can design, Alani Nu’s product design doesn’t reveal the flavor—or at least, I hope it doesn’t. The can design features Christmas tree branches adorned with ornaments shaped like disco balls, pink flamingos, and narwhals. I imagine we’ll get more info regarding the flavor when this new Alani flavor is officially announced, which will happen…eventually. Listen, if you want 100% fleshed-out news, don’t click on articles about leaked pictures of energy drinks.
So what could Winter Wonderland taste like?
Alani Nu has yet to do a cranberry or pomegranate flavor, so those are absolutely on the table. sugar plum is certainly an option, even if no one is quite sure exactly what a sugar plum is. Previous winter energy drink releases from Red Bull include Pear Cinnamon and Fig Apple. That said, I don’t imagine Alani Nu would transparently rip a flavor profile from another company—that’s just not their style.
This is definitely a leap, but there is technically a flavor combo visible in the can design itself. As stated earlier, one of the three types of ornaments on the can is a pink flamingo. Innocuous and totally on-brand with Alani Nu’s brand-consistent sunny disposition? Sure! But what if this is a grand conspiracy to lead us to the true flavor profile: the Pink Flamingo cocktail.
What the hell is a Pink Flamingo cocktail?
The Pink Flamingo is a cocktail created by master mixologist Jim Meehan back in 2010. There aren’t too many ingredients (rum, lime juice, and pink grapefruit soda), and they’re all very in character for Alani Nu. While I expect they’ll be skipping the rum aspect, I could absolutely see this being a pink-grapefruit-and-lime energy drink. Would anyone expect this flavor combination for Christmas? Absolutely not. That said, as someone who lives in the frigid flatlands of Ohio, I’m not going to decline Alani Nu offering me beachfront vibes while it’s 8 degrees outside.
When are we going to find Alani Nu Winter Wonderland on shelves?
Again, I’d love to have an answer for you. I hope we see this on shelves soon, if only so we can clear up this flavor mystery ASAP. Alani Nu politely sidestepped my request for more information on this release—not surprising since I was asking about a product we shouldn’t know anything about yet in the first place. We’ll be sure to update the second we know!
