If there is one thing the packaged food machine has given us in 2024, it is pickles. Endless pickles. Pickles in our Goldfish, pickles in our mayo, pickles in our jelly beans, mustard, corn puffs, and chips. Big ol’ snack companies will put pickles anywhere, it seems. Anywhere, that is, except a jar where they belong. But now beverage companies are getting on the trend. Between pickle sparkling waters and Dua Lipa dumping pickles and jalapeños in her Diet Coke (this is real, take a look), we were due for another perfectly pickle-y drinkable delight, and we finally got it in the form of a new Dill Pickle Bloody Mary Mix, a collab between Grillo’s and V8.
Does this new dill pickle Bloody Mary mix have alcohol? Is it just sour tomato soup served cold in a can? Is it basically a savory acai bowl if you put veggies and pickle chips on top?
To answer your questions, no, it doesn’t have alcohol—like most Bloody Mary mixes, adding booze (if you elect to) is your job. The pickle experts over at Grillo’s and the veggie-juice-mixing experts over at V8 have concocted a new creation just for us which supposedly “blends the iconic richness of V8 tomato juice, natural cucumber flavor, and a perfect medley of spices with the unmistakable tang of Grillo’s signature brine.” I honestly think this sounds kind of great. As a person whose one gripe with V8 is that I wish it were saltier and whose one gripe with Grillo’s is that I don’t have any in my fridge right now because I ran out and haven’t gotten to the store yet this week (it’s a real problem), I feel like this canned dill pickle Bloody Mary mix will simultaneously resolve both of my gripes. Which is great because that way I won’t ever have to come back and haunt anyone due to unresolved pickle-and-veggie-juice-related gripe business. Instead, I can just sip my pickle Bloody Mary mix and enjoy life.
The V8 x Grillo’s Dill Pickle Bloody Mary Mix will be available in canned six packs for $6.29 on Amazon starting today, and will hit other store shelves nationwide in early 2025. So if you love a good ol’ savory smoothie, briny gazpacho, or canned, pickly, Bloody Mary mix ripe for the brunchin’, grab yourself a glass, a spoon, or a straw, and the alcohol of your choice. Hopefully this new pickle Bloody Mary mix will be Gr8 (get it? like Grillo’s and V8? they truly need me on their marketing team).
