Another day, another exciting new product reveal coming out of the NACS Expo. The newest Monster Energy flavor has barely hit shelves and we already know the next two coming down the line. Two fan-favorite Monster lines will be getting new flavors soon: Zero Sugar Ultra Blue Hawaiian for the sugar-opposed and Juice Monster Viking Berry Juice for the sugar-addicted. Those names don’t give us many clues as to the flavors of these drinks, but let’s take a closer look at the can design to see what we can suss out.
Is Hawaiian a flavor?
Apparently! While there are no fruits to be seen in the Zero Sugar Ultra Blue Hawaiian can design, it contains all the motifs you’d expect from a tropical energy drink: tiki girls, shrunken heads, turtles, palm fronds, and fish. If we’re talking about what I hope this tastes like, I certainly have an idea. Earlier this year, Mountain Dew released a similarly-blue soda exclusively to Speedway with a “Pineapple Berry” flavor. It quickly became one of my top favorite sodas, so I definitely wouldn’t complain if mutual parent company PepsiCo borrowed the flavor concept from one brand to use in another.
What’s a viking’s favorite berry?
While this sounds like a setup to a pretty bad joke, there is actually a berry-producing shrub known as viking aronia. It produces aronia berries, also known as chokeberries. What do these viking berries taste like? Per some very niche websites, chokeberries are sweet, tart, lightly bitter, and sour. The Juice Monster Viking Berry Juice can design doesn’t explicitly picture any specific fruit, focusing instead on some cool viking art (ships, eagles, all that jazz). That said, I have a feeling this flavor will be based on the flavor of aronia berries. I’m looking forward to finding out what that actually means when this flavor is released.
When will these new Monster flavors hit shelves?
At this time, we don’t have any official release date for these new Monster flavors. But that information could be revealed within the month. If the news does make its way online, I’ll be sure to update this article with the info. Based purely on past releases, I wouldn’t expect both Juice Monster Viking Berry Juice and Zero Sugar Ultra Blue Hawaiian to launch at the same time; Monster tends to space out their new releases so they can focus on launching each new flavor individually.
Are these new Monster Energy drinks going to be limited-time-only?
While we’re used to energy drinks pumping out LTOs to fill shelf space for just a few months before the next one drops, Monster doesn’t play like that. Monster Energy launches new flavors for good, and for good reason too: Could you imagine the riots if Ultra Strawberry Dreams ever left shelves? Whenever they drop, you should expect these flavors to be available as long as they sell well enough to be worth producing.
I’m just sad that rehab raspberry tea was discontinued
Does this mean ultra blue is officially leaving?
Pepsico is not the parent company of Monster. Coke has distribution rights and part ownership of Monster
