By my estimate, the “white Monster” is second only to gasoline in terms of “liquids sold at gas stations.” That oft-imitated bedrock of Monster’s Zero Sugar line has even made it into the liquor aisle through Monster Energy’s line of hard malt beverages. Other companies might rest on their laurels after defining the genre, but Monster is still hard at work pumping out new Monster flavors. And they’re taking big swings at the throne. Let’s talk about 2023’s Ultra Strawberry Dreams; it’s my favorite out of the whole Monster Zero Ultra Energy line, and I’ll happily cosign the Sporked office’s 9/10 rating for Ultra Fantasy Ruby Red, which came out earlier this year.
But there’s yet another new Monster flavor within the Ultra line-up coming out this year. And I got the scoop early, because apparently I have the kind of face that says “send me low-security corporate secrets.” Anyway, I hope you like guava.
They’re really making a Guava Monster? How do you know?
Earlier this month, Kroger put up a product listing for “Monster Energy Ultra Vice Guava.” This was a surprise to everyone who hadn’t been quietly speaking with a distribution center employee for multiple weeks about when this news would be okay to reveal to the public. Leave it to the grocery store to steal my thunder, sheesh. According to that listing, this drink contains “the fresh taste of perfectly ripened guava.”
Guava? In an energy drink?
It’s not as crazy as you might think! There are multiple companies pumping out drinks with guava flavoring (C4, Reign, and multiple from Celsius), but to my knowledge, this will be the one of very few that’s ever been exclusively guava flavored. I haven’t tried it, but the plucky underdogs at Accelerator Energy do include an “Island Guava” in their lineup. Rockstar used to sell a “Tropical Guava” in their Punched line, but according to their website, that flavor is no longer available. Let’s hope that’s not foreshadowing a bad response to this new Monster flavor…
When and where can I find this guava-licious new drink?
I’m not saying I’ve been speaking to gravelly-voiced informants in the dead of night, but a little birdie told me we can expect this new Monster flavor on shelves around the middle of October. This drink won’t be exclusive to any particular retailer, so you should be able to find it at your local gas stations, convenience, and grocery stores. The good folks at Monster Energy have been known to send over early cans of new flavors to yours truly; fingers crossed I can get a review up for the masses ASAP.
