In the world of salty-sweet treats, there are two dominant flavor profiles: peanut butter and salted caramel (okay, shout out to kettle corn, too). That said, combining them is unexplored territory, but Butterfinger is on the case. In advance of the National Association of Convenience Stores trade show this month, Butterfinger unveiled their newest candy bar creation: the Salted Caramel Butterfinger. Frankly, we can’t wait to “lay a finger” on this bad boy—but we’ll have to. According to Kalyn Flournoy, Butterfinger’s senior brand manager, the new Salted Caramel Butterfinger won’t be hitting stores until April 2025, when it will be a limited-time offering.
The original Butterfinger is already pretty great—will this new Butterfinger flavor be any…butter?
The new Butterfinger flavor is a secret no longer, but it’s still not clear how the salted caramel will actually be incorporated into the Butterfinger or what, if anything, will remain of the original bar. From the teased packaging, however, it looks like Butterfinger has elected to preserve their iconic yellow wrapper and added two caramel-colored stripes to the corners of the packaging; there’s a little square of salted caramel on the label, along with some roasted peanuts.
If you look closely at the wrapper, there is a clue as to how salted caramel comes into play in this new Butterfinger bar. It appears that the crunchy Butterfinger center you know in love is dipped in a caramel-colored coating rather than milk chocolate. It’s safe to say the salted caramel flavor will come from the outside of the bar—which should be a relief for fans who were worried that the new bar would feature something besides the “crispety, crunchety, peanut-buttery” center of a classic Butterfinger.
This is the first time Butterfinger has ever introduced a new flavor to their lineup in their nearly 100-year history. And, naturally, when it’s as good a pairing as salted caramel and peanut butter, people are going to get excited about it. Instagram users commented that they need “a case immediately” and that the new flavor “sounds like a perfect match.” Six years ago, Butterfinger was acquired by Ferrero, which also manufactures Baby Ruth, Crunch, and Kinder Bueno. This is may be the brand’s first flavor innovation, but it probably won’t be the last.
