H-E-B is more than a grocery store. It’s an iconic Texas destination. So, when Sporked’s Jordan Myrick road tripped through the Lone Star State, they made sure to tour through an H-E-B like the national monument that it is. Normalize visiting regional grocery stores on vacations!
And were they impressed? Indeed they were. They came back telling tales of an in-store restaurant, an unrivaled prepared foods section, refrigerated pickle juice, and what they described as a “psychotic” selection of tamales. But there were a few products they spotted that you simply must snag if you live near an H-E-B or are traveling through Texas. Here are the five best things in H-E-B to buy right now.
- H-E-B Pickle Me Relish Mustard Relish
-
“The selection of mustards was off the chain,” Jordan said. But the most intriguing of all the mustards was this mustard-relish hybrid. Made with dill pickle relish and yellow grain mustard, this two-in-one condiment is certainly the tastiest way to save space in your fridge. We love a hack that allows us to buy more sauces.
- Mi Tienda by H-E-B Cantinero Botana Mixta
-
If you’re on a road trip through Texas, this H-E-B brand mix is one of the best H-E-B snacks to buy. It’s a mix of peanuts and tortilla chips (H-E-B is famed for its tortilla chips) that’s seasoned with chile and garlic. How is this not sold everywhere?
- H-E-B Cashew Grande Key Lime Pie
-
Jordan was seriously impressed by the selection of nuts at H-E-B. You could say, if you’re nuts for nuts, H-E-B is the store for you. (Sorry.) They told us of salsa verde-flavored cashews and chile limon-flavored pistachios, but the real standouts were these key lime pie-flavored cashews. They’re gigantic. They’re sweet. They’re tart. They’re nutty. And you’re probably not going to find them in your local Kroger.
- H-E-B Conchitas Cup and H-E-B Fideo Cup
-
Forget instant ramen in a cup, Jordan found instant conchitas (seasoned shells) and fideos (seasoned vermicelli noodles) in a cup. Inspired by “South Texas” flavors, these microwavable meals are each ready in just three and a half minutes. And they sound way more interesting than mac and cheese. And we love mac and cheese.
- H-E-B That Green Sauce
-
Texas taco spots like Chuy’s, Torchy’s, and Taco Deli all offer their own version of a creamy green sauce. This is H-E-B’s take on that green sauce—hey, that’s what it’s called! Fun! Made with jalapeños, poblanos, green tomatoes, and sour cream for that creamy texture, it’s obviously a go-to sauce for breakfast tacos, but we’re going to use it on pretty much whatever.
