What to Buy at Costco in September

You’re all in for a real treat this month! Normally, our monthly roundup of what to buy at Costco consists of the new, or new to me, items I spotted at my neighborhood Costco here in Los Angeles, but this month took me back home to Minnesota, the land of dairy lovers and the spice averse! I stopped in at a nearby Costco in between trips to the Minnesota State Fair and found quite the new items to share with you all! And if you’re wondering if the Midwestern Costco food court has any cool unique offerings like a Japanese one, I’m sad to report that it’s all the same. Personally, I think they should add deep fried cheese curds to the menu, but we can workshop that later! In the meantime, here are the best things to buy at Costco in September.

Crunchmaster Sweet & Salty Rice Poppers

Speaking of Japan, these little rice nuggets look dangerous! Sweet and salty is never a safe combo when it comes to keeping my waistline in check, but I’ll suffer for deliciousness. Plus, they have a cute little mascot emblazoned on the bag, so you have a friend to talk to when you’re binging Survivor at home on the couch! I think you can easily swap in these rice snacks if you’re sick of your usual bowl of microwave popcorn, so grab these from Costco to give ’em a try.

Kirkland Signature Pumpkin Streusel Muffins

Okay okay, I put together my list of the best fall foods at Costco a little bit early, but I’m making up for it now! Costco’s got their Kirkland Signature Pumpkin Streusel Muffins back in the bakery. These are a certified fan fave, so just be sure you’re prepared to throw an elbow or two to fight off all those shoppers who are flocking to the table. But it’ll be worth it when you’re kicking off fall by downing one of these babies with your morning pumpkin spice latte.

Skittles Fruit Snacks

Confession time: I find the experience of eating Skittles—biting through the hard candy shell and into the candy’s squishy innards—to be not wholly pleasant. Am I a freak? Maybe, maybe not, because Skittles has addressed my issue by releasing these Skittles-flavored fruit snacks. But even if you love Skittles, there’s something novel about enjoying the flavor of Skittles with a handful of soft fruit snacks to switch things up. Thanks for the new find, Costco!

Cheez-It Snap’d White Cheddar

Texture lovers rejoice! As if regular Cheez-Its weren’t crunchy enough, the food scientists cranked the knob up to 11 for us. Cheez-It Snap’d are cheesy, thin, crispy, and utterly satisfying to devour. At Costco, a bag of these is super-sized, which is great because I really don’t see these lasting for longer than a week in my pantry otherwise. Grab these if you want to crunch yourself into a coma or fill your snack drawer at work (yes, I mean dump the whole bag in and free-ball it).

Pretzilla Soft Pretzel Bites

This box has it all: soft pretzel bites with salt to go on top and dipping sauces. That’s right, sauces plural! It comes with ooey-gooey cheese sauce and a tangy dijon mustard, as well. We love options! You know who else loves options? Party guests! Grab a box of these pretzel bites for your next football game or your Survivor 47 watch party (and pls invite me, I need more friends). By Costco standards, this box is a little small, so maybe grab a couple so you’re set for the season.

Motor City Pizza Co. 5 Cheese Bread

Costco is really packing in the party table snacks for the fall, although I’m scared to recommend this for a party where you’re watching something important. The moment you put out a tray of Detroit-style deep dish cheese bread is the moment you lose everyone’s attention to the caramelized, crispy, sultry mound of molten cheese that smells as good as it tastes. Five cheeses, all commingling in each bite? Yes freaking please! This comes in a two-pack from Costco, but I were you, I’d make room for more than that.

Taste of the South Smokehouse Beef Brisket Dip

Leave it to the South to think of something as divine as beef brisket dip! I didn’t even know that was possible. But thanks to the global reach of Costco, I can find out for myself how good this stuff must be (the Sporked team loved it). Grab a tub of this dip and a giant bag of chips of your choice, and go to town on this smoky, decadent dip.

Purely Elizabeth Chocolate Chip Cookie Granola

The brand that makes the best granola makes cookies? Does that mean cookies are healthy now? Sure, why not! I’m no dietitian, but granola seems healthy enough to the common man, so I’m not going to look into it any further. Plus, they have some of my favorite buzzwords on the front: “100% whole grains, good source of fiber, so good your grandma will ask for the recipe.” Okay, I added that last one, but still, these sound like a great thing to add to your September Costco haul.

Golden Island Korean Barbecue Snack Bites

Beef jerky is a classic snack, but this is a new spin that makes it fun again. Instead of ripping apart a giant slab of jerky like you’re a caveman, throw your head back and pop a few snack bites into your mouth. Not just any snack bites; snack bites that taste like Korean barbecue. This big, honkin’ bag from Costco comes with 12 individually sized bags, so you could probably hide them around your house and then sniff them out like you’re a zoo animal—fun!

Lovebird Cinnamon Cereal

I am a cereal fanatic. The cereal aisle at my local grocery store is my happy place. I could spend hours standing there deciding what box to grab for the week ahead. So I understand if only the freakiest of cereal freaks would be interested in a cereal as basic as this. This cereal only has six ingredients and considering that cassava and coconut sugar are two of them, I can see how you might not be excited about what lies ahead, especially when this cereal is right there between giant boxes of Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Frosted Flakes. But, hey, it’s new and I’m intrigued, so just go with it and add it to the list of what to buy at Costco this month.
